In honor of Arbor Day, we are re-posting this wonderful article about the Love Tree! We recently traveled to St. Augustine, Florida searching for relaxation on the sandy oceanfront, but were enchanted by the romantic town, fabulous dining and perfect weather. If you are unfamiliar with the area, it is the oldest city in the United States, full of rich history, architecture, beaches and tales. One such tale we encountered was The Love Tree… A “love tree” is defined as two trees so tightly entwined that they must embrace forever or both die. It’s an unbelievable site and you must look closely to see one of the trees actually hugging the other. The trees are often very different (such as a palm and an oak) which we stumbled upon in the front yard of the Love Tree Cafe, on Cordova Street. The legend (according to: http://www.simplystaugustine.com/romantic/st-augustine-love-trees/) goes something like this: “if you kiss your sweetheart under a love tree, your love will be eternal.” For honeymooners, a photograph under the love tree is a must! If you are looking for a place to stay, the options include quaint bed & breakfasts or condos. We particularly love this beachfront beauty:
